Yi Wei's Reflection

In this project, the most interesting idea proposed was to mimic the hedgehog spine and apply the concept to improve the current helmet design. From the literature, the hedgehogs are able to reduce the impact when they fall with their special spines which enable them to roll into ball shape. Hence, this special characteristic of hedgehog has inspired the idea of our hedgehog helmet. In example, whenever the motorcyclist bumped into any accident and experience impact or shock, the hedgehog will be able to absorb the shock and increase the time of impact. This helped in protecting the user’s brain and preventing injuries and concussion to the user’s brain. This idea is unique and challenging. It has the potential to be patented since this is a new idea to improve the current helmet design. However, further studies need to be conducted before it can be patented. Data and experiments are needed to prove and support this idea to be applied into real-life situation. With the data, this idea can easily be patented.

Working as a team has made this project easier to complete, as different ideas were contributed by each member. Since different team member possessed different strength and weakness, tasks have been distributed to each member according to each of their strength. The strength and weakness of each member has been countered by one another. Throughout the project, the team has gone through ups and downs. During the meetings and discussions, the team has encountered the situation, where the team members have actually come up with different ideas. However, the team members are tolerated enough to listen to others and try to agree with one another. Thus, the team has managed to work along well. Useful knowledge and experience was gained during the activities carried out in this project and will definitely provide me some insights for my future.
