Jane's Reflection

Enjoyment and conflicts happened throughout the project. Knowledge gained during the discussion and decision was the most precious experienced for the future. As the member mainly responsible for literature review progress, I have learnt that every task in any project is important and will definitely affects the final outcome of the project. The insufficient information provided for the members with upcoming tasks might decrease the results quality. As an example in the blog creation project, I have done quite a shallow research in the beginning for the possible invention in the current market. Unfortunately, the member with upcoming task, which was the design process, faced the issue with insufficient accurate information to proceed on the new invention. However, it was solved as the particular member delivered problem and all the members helped out for a more detailed research. I was grateful that the group members are considerate and provide their fully effort together solving the issue.
Numerous ideas were proposed throughout the project from the members. The final design, which was the most interesting from my point of view, was having the hedgehog’s shape in the design. Plenty of ideas were contributed for the final outlook of the helmet; however, the team had chosen the design that most well mimicked the shape of a hedgehog. It is different from the usual helmet design, yet having the sufficient protection for the user. Though, the invention was immature to be patent. Details experiment and data are required for a fully functional helmet mimicked from hedgehog features. Survey should be carried out to obtained more feedback and have the improvements based on the suggestions.

Throughout the project, I have noticed that every creature in the world is unique. Just like the invention of Velcro tape by George de Mestral inspired from Burdock plant. Even though it is just a tiny plant, great invention is able to obtained from the unique point and improving human life efficiency. Engineers are often encourage to think out of the box as ideas can always be found in our daily life for accepting and trying out all the wild thought. As we can notice from our hedgehog-mimicked helmets, ideas were completely inspired by the animal. Invention would not be done if members did not think beyond the limits. It is appreciate that Engineering and Biomimetic is offered by the University, and delivered the knowledge for students to have different perspective towards any living creature in the world by having them involving in Blog Creation Project. Knowledge and experienced gained throughout the subject are admittedly priceless.
